Better living through condiments

When the food just isn’t that great, sometimes you can make it tolerable with condiments.  Since my roommate is from Pittsburgh, our condiment of choice is Heinz ketchup, and since we’re Costco members, the 320 oz bottle of ketchup is all we have room for in the fridge.  But I digress…

The main course of fresh snow is going to have a lousy taste this week, so you’ll have to add a few condiments to your normal routine (hiking for snow, playing in the park, or just some more apres ski) to make the snow worthwhile.  Just below I show the forecast, a little lower is a map of snow for the next week, and at the bottom I’ll leave you with some entertainment.  If anything changes over the week, I’ll update this blog.  Please use the comments to let me know if the weather gets a little wackier than I think, and also to report on (any) fresh snow.  Thanks!

Quick Forecast

  • Friday= sunny and warm
  • Saturday = windy with clouds east of the divide starting in the AM. Clouds west of the divide come in the afternoon and light snow falls along and north of I-70.
  • Sunday = wake up to sun, cold, and a dusting of snow along I-70, maybe a few inches up by Steamboat and north. More clouds come in the evening with light snow and wind along and north of I-70.
  • Monday = wake up to sun, cold, and a few inches of fresh along and north of I-70, with “deepest” amounts furthest north. Maybe some snow showers linger in the far north of Colorado.
  • Tuesday = sunny and warmer in the afternoon, with a few snow showers in the far north of Colorado (with some wind up there).
  • Wednesday = sunny, warmer, and dry.
  • Thursday = sunny, warmer, and lots of turkey (no snow).

The gist of this forecast is that good storms are hitting the west coast from Tahoe to the Cascades, but they will mostly stay north of us and just brush the northern 1/2 or 1/3 of Colorado.

Predicted snow for the coming week

Some readers asked for an easier, more visual summary of the forecast, so here it is.  Many of these readers came from Lou Dawson’s “Wild Snow” blog – thanks Lou for the mention! (click the colored areas for details)

How did we fare last week?

The storm came in as expected, and thanks to official reports from ski areas, the National Weather Service, and some reports emailed to me by readers (thanks!), the map of snow from Thur-Sun (Nov 12-15) looks like this.  Go to the Keep Me Honest section to see how last week’s forecast turned out. Your weekly entertainment

The big news this week is that Intrawest sold Copper Mountain to Powdr Corp, though things will remain the same for this ski season.  Not wanting to be out done in the competition for media coverage, Vail Resorts launched a surprise infomercial about the Epic Pass.  Thanks to @ozskier for the link and Freeskier for the post below.
