More snow just over the horizon

Good news, powder lovers.  Looks like the weekend will be snowy for much of Colorado, though I don’t think we will see big amounts.  It doesn’t matter, though.  As the sun angle goes lower (bottoming out on December 21st), every bit of snow helps since the sun isn’t doing a good job at melting the precious white gold.

Clouds and snow should hit most mountains over the course of the weekend, starting Saturday morning and lasting through Sunday afternoon.  The best chance for heavy snow is the central and southern mountains (Aspen south to Wolf Creek, and the southern Front Range).

The setup for the weekend is complicated.  A storm is once again slamming the Pacific Northwest, and it will then make a right turn and “dive” south.  However, unlike the last few storms that followed this track and dove straight into Colorado, this storm is diving into all the way into Arizona, which leaves us with less moisture and less “storm energy” than we would like.

Since last Sunday/Monday’s storm preferentially dropped snow on the northern mountains, its only fair that now the southern peaks get in on the action.  Here’s a snapshot of the storm:

Happy Thanksgiving!  And check in every day or two for updates.  Since the weather changes all the time, why not update this blog more often than once a week?  Hah – I didn’t think you had a good answer to that mostly rhetorical question, so from now on…see you here more often:-)

If you kept reading to this point, your reward is the knowledge that the next storm coming down the pike is likely to hit Colorado on Wednesday (12/2/2009).  Yesssss!
