Splits. Good for the Olympics, but bad most of Colorado when it comes to snow this weekend.
A storm moving into Washington State will head south toward Colorado. Before it arrives, some of the energy will split off and travel through Wyoming and Montana, while the main part of the storm moves far south toward the Baja Pennisula. What does this mean for snow in Colorado over the next week?
Forecast
- Friday= A perfect day. Sunny, warm, and a bit beezy across the higher elevations of northern Colorado. Get out and ski (shopping is over rated).
- Saturday = Dry for most of the state. Partly sunny in the morning, then clouding over through the day. It should still be rather warm for late November. After sunset, snow will start for the San Juan mtns, with some snow for Telluride and the most snow toward Durango, Purgatory, Silverton, and Wolf Creek on the southern side of the San Juans. Some light snow could fall as far north as Crested Butte and Monarch. Also, snow could fall for a few hours across the eastern mountains, starting around Rocky Mountain National Park before sunrise Sunday and spreading south toward Pikes Peak by sunrise.
- Sunday = The heaviest snow will fall on the southern side of the San Juans in the morning, and spread east to the south Sangres and southern Front Range by late morning. The snow should end for these areas by Sunday evening, if not earlier.
- Monday = Clearing across all of Colorado with sunny skies. The morning will be chilly, but it will warm up nicely through the day. It will be hard to go back to work with the fresh snow on the ground for most areas south and east of Summit County, including the urban areas on the plains.
- Tuesday = Dry and mostly sunny, with some higher, thin clouds across the northern and eastern areas of Colorado.
- Wednesday = Likely dry, but some very cold air could spill onto the eastern plains, and perhaps make it as far west as the continental divide.
- Thursday = Again, a dry day with some colder air possible along and east of the divide.
I am sorry and depressed to say that I don’t see any big storms coming next week. Maybe later next weekend??
