Cold, snow, and MORE snow!

Good news this morning (Thursday).  Tuesday night and Wednesday’s storm brought some very cold air and also dumped about the “right” amount of snow that I forecast.  The winner was 11″ at Eldora (I said 6-10″ in lucky areas east of the divide), but many areas from Aspen on north and east picked up at least a few inches.  See further below the graphic for the snowy (late weekend) forecast!

Also, as I thought, the storm produced some very light, fluffy snow that you could literally blow away!  Evidence from Boulder on Wednesday morning:

Quick Forecast: Thurs-Thurs

I’ll release my full, more “official” one week forecast later tonight, but the computer models are showing the white gold for late this weekend and early next week, so I wanted to tell you about it now.  Yes, I am excited!  Bring on the snow!  (this storm will mostly focus on Colorado, Arizona, and southern Utah…sorry everyone else!)

  • Thursday:  Very cold, but not much snow.  Just some snow showers around.  Temperatures around 0 through the day at higher elevations, and below 0 for most areas Thursday night.
  • Friday: Sunny and “warmer”, though cold air will be trapped in many valleys.
  • Saturday: Sunny for most areas, with clouds moving in later in the day, especially along and north of I-70.  TRAVELERS on Rt. 93 from Boulder to Golden: watch out for strong winds from the west late Friday night and Saturday morning that might cause drifting of snow and slow downs / temporary shutdowns of the road.
  • Sunday: Two areas of snow.  First, the mountains along and north of I-70 should get at least a few inches to around 6″ from morning through the day.  Also, another surge of VERY cold air will spill down the east side of the divide, with some light snow for the mountains, foothills, and plains east of the divide.
  • Monday: The snow machine cranks into high gear, focusing on mountains from Aspen on south (Aspen, Crested Butte, Telluride, Wolf Creek, Silverton, Durango, Purgatory).  Amounts likely exceeding a foot by Tuesday.
  • Tuesday: The heaviest snow winds down for the favored Monday locations, but areas along and north of I-70 now get some more action with a few more inches.
  • Wednesday: Likely a lull in the snow (but maybe some decent snow continuing across the north).
  • Thursday: Don’t hold your breath, but maybe another storm later in the week.

Again – full forecast coming by Friday morning with a first guess of snowfall amounts on a map.  Until then, starting getting excited that WINTER is BACK!
