Good news – we’re raising the bar for our New Years powder forecast.
- My forecast of 1-3″, up to 6″ for Tuesday into Wednesday was about right and even a little low. Powderhorn again went nuts and grabbed 11″ from the clouds. Vail/Beaver Creek/Steamboat are around a half foot based on reports, and Telluride/Monarch are up to 8″…with snow still falling.
- More snow should fall tonight. 6″ is a good bet, though could see up to 10″ new inches from this afternoon (Wednesday) through Thursday morning. Highest totals should be Telluride/Monarch/Aspen/Powderhorn/Sunlight/Vail/Beaver Creek/Steamboat.
- Thursday morning will be FUN, with fresh pow and some sun mixed with snow showers. Get after it!
- Friday: A good day to start late and nurse the hangover. Mostly cloudy with light snow, generally along and north of I-70.
- Saturday: GOOD NEWS! More snow for resorts along and north of I-70. It should snow most of Saturday and Saturday evening.
- Sunday: Likely 3-6″ by the AM report, while Vail/Beaver Creek/Copper could be closer to double digits and Steamboat could see close to a foot. The snow might be chopped up from Saturday, but if enough falls Saturday evening, then Sunday will lock in some freshness as well.
Enjoy the powder as we close down 2009 and ramp up 2010!

The snow was falling with fury up at Jones Pass today. I hope this storm produces. Is that high jumper pic of you in college Joel?

I’d suggest 202 tuas and a heaping dose of epic burger. If that fails, put some powder up your horn, head to the red lion, and be merry.
Thanks, Joel. It’s nice to be in a place where I don’t believe it till I see it, but, it’s also nice to get an educated forewarning.

Caleb Wray – Good eye…the high jumper is my cousin.

Joel,
I love it when the mountain I end up on wins the snowfall sweepstakes. Beaver Creek was a powder paradise yesterday with 13″ in 24, 17 in 48. If your curious, check out my report at http://www.glutenfreesnowboarder.com. Thanks for the fine and funny forecasts.

I skied DEEP pow at Beaver Creek Thurs morn. BC reported 13 in. over 24 hrs but we found knee to thigh deep in various glades. One set of glades remained deep and fresh all day because nobody was skiing it but us. It was the best pow day of the season thus far.

Brad – glad you got the goods at Beaver Creek on Thursday. I was there, and indeed is was sensational! Great write-up over on your blog (http://www.glutenfreesnowboarder.com).

Josh – yep, maybe a few spots of 24-36″ in the untouched trees. Still have to be careful of the hidden “treasures” under the snow in the trees, but overall Thurs was a great day!

Hi yoyo – Check out http://utahskiweather.com/ for more on Utah conditions. Next chance for meaningful snow in the Wasatch is Sunday/Monday (Jan 10-11).
