Cold and snow hits Colorado on Wed.

More snow is on the way, and the biggest beneficiaries will be Steamboat and on over to Winter Park, where there could be 12″ of new fluff by Wednesday night.  The other big story is the COLD AIR that will invade Colorado from the north.  The cold front will hit the CO/WY border by about sunrise, and move through Denver during the morning.  By midday, it will be snowing on the flatlands and temperatures will be dropping to the single digits.  The cold air will also infiltrate the mountains by Wednesday afternoon and will stick around through Friday morning.

  • Wednesday: Turn up the heat and take warm clothes!  Snow will fall for most places along and north of I-70 in the morning, and the snow will spread across the plains and south of I-70 by afternoon.  As the cold front moves through the mountains (Steamboat around 10am, I-70 around 12-2p), a burst of heavier snow is likely and the temperatures will plummet below zero in the afternoon.  Snow will make it down to the northern San Juans by evening while skies clear across the northern areas.  Travel from the mountains to the plains on Wednesday afternoon will be slow with snowcovered roads and frigid temperatures.  A detailed snowfall map is below…
  • Thursday: Cold start with temperatures well below zero, but mostly sunny and dry.  A few clouds and flurries could linger in the San Juans.
  • Friday: Mostly sunny and warming up (still cold in the valleys in the morning).
  • Saturday: Mostly sunny and warmer…a few more clouds later in the day.
  • Sunday: Mostly cloudy with light snow for much of the state, though amounts looks low (less than 6″).
