It’s been a great season! THANK YOU for supporting me (Joel Gratz) and the Colorado Powder Forecast. The Quick Forecast page is updated for the last time this season (unless there is another large snowstorm).
Can you hang out for one minute to tiddy up a bit?

The Colorado Powder Forecast endeavors to offer so much more for next season. In fact, I hope it will be a game-changer of a website & mobile application. Please help me get started:
Tip Jar
I love forecasting snow in Colorado. I love it so much, I quit my corporate meteorology job in January, and I hope to develop a sustainable business around powder forecasting starting next season. For now, though, I am happy to take tips:-) A few fans suggested a tip jar, and I’m not opposed. Don’t feel obligated, as your readership is plenty and passing along the site to friends is even better.
If you want to give a few bucks, click here, and THANK YOU!
Summer forecasts coming soon!
Yep, I like to hike, bike, and climb as well. Don’t we all? Sometimes the weather gets in the way – especially those damn thunderstorms with very dangerous lightning. I’m working on a website to give you the inside scoop on summer weather as well!

Thanks for the great season, Joel! Your efforts let me plan ahead so that I could get out on all the good days this season.
Looking forward to http://coloradoZAPforecast.com

Thanks! That’s a funny name, actually. Happy to entertain any other naming ideas for the summer website!

Thanks Joel! Keep up the redonculously awesome work!
If you could somehow combine your forecasts with a quick snow report for the resorts early each morning (just the numbers), your site would be my only source for snow information! Actually, that would also require a couple of avy roses and a load of snide comments from TGR members.. : )
What kind of storm chasing are you doing this summer?

No problem. I’ve got something cooking for next year that will hopefully be a one-stop shop for all things snow. I’ll check in including a few snide comments as well…

Storm chasing = driving around the plains in Colorado, Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska, Wyoming, South & North Dakota to see great supercells and perhaps some tornadoes. Seeing a great storm for it’s 1-3 minute peak (sometimes longer) is about as fun as that perfect 18″ powder day!
Hi Joel, thanks for letting those of us still stuck in the corporate world know when to let our cubicles collect dust for a day, especially during this sub average season. You helped me nail most of the somewhat rare powder weekdays since January. Do you have a P.O. box or somewhere else I can mail you something for your tip jar?

This is the ONLY site that I trust for weather. You have brought back credibility to meteorologists. Truly fantastic job!
Thank you so much for all you did this winter, and will hopefully do in coming years.

Colorado Thunder Forecast?

I vote for “cloud to ground” as the name for the summer site. Great job this winter and we all cannot wait to see what you have planned for next winter. Be safe chasing those storms and thanks again for all you do.

Yup! Pretty good snow for Colorado. San Juans get it on Thurs, and the other mountains should get in on the action Thursday night and Friday.

Will you be updating the “Quick Forecast”?

I’ll update just a few things in the Quick Forecast. The gist is highly variable snow amounts Thur/Fri with thunderstorm-like variability (lots of snow on some peaks, little on other peaks). Good chance of snow Thu through Sat, with the best chance of consistently deeper snow east of the divide on Thu night and Friday. 5″ of some heavy snow at Abasin as of Thu AM? Woohoo! Should be fun to ski…
Thunderstorm predictions with a best guess on lightening activity would be really useful.

If you guys haven’t noticed, winter is just starting… You might have to hold off on those summer forcasts Joel!!

Matt H is right. I have been skiing pow for days and decided to take today (sunday May 2) off. Woke up to 6-8 inches on my deck west of Steamboat. So our tracks from yesterday are long gone and maybe I need to suck it up and head out for another powder day in the boat.

East Wall at A-Basin skied really well on Saturday. Caught the rope-drop, had one of the little finger chutes all to my lonesome, fun May turns with minimal effort. Way to stick around, winter.
